Occasionally, Horace appears as just a one-panel gag, so here's a random selection for your entertainment and approval. From Feb 2000 From Oct 2001 From July 2003

Usually, when I see some of our old stuff, I have a vague recollection of writing it. That third example above is an exception---I have absolutely NO recollection of it at all!Having written thousands of strips, I suppose it's impossible to remember every one of them....that's my excuse anyway.

I remember those! Rob, some time ago, I wondered if Andrew and I had reached ten thousand Beau Peep strips. You pointed out that we were some way short of that. I hate to put this on you but, if you have time in the future, could you work out(roughly) the current figure? I know it's impossible to come up with the EXACT figure but an approximate estimate would be interesting. Horace has now been running for over 24 years (there was a break in The Mirror but it's been continuous in The Record) so that must come to around 7,000 strips. I need a new pencil.

I hope this drawing of a rather young looking Beau holding a cake doesn't give the game away , but head on over to the Beau Peep Forum....

Brilliant Rob, love them. I can't help chuckling away at the last one...more corn than the Jolly Green Giants vegetable patch.

I remember Rob telling me that, some time after that "trouble" strip appeared, the same gag turned up in VIZ. I never charged them...

I can't remember which issue of Viz this was in (I photocopied it at work and forgot to date it), but it was definitely a couple of months after Roger's Horace strip was published in the Mirror.

Vis is was a great magazine, but Roger wins. Growing up with BP and the Horace stuff, gives the characters...well, character. "Knowing" Horace and simply looking at his non-expression makes it funnier.
Oh aye. Plus the fact that those sh**s at VIZ rattled the price of their mag faster than fuel, whilst removing cartoon space for ads, makes me even more biased.
